SAVE THE DATE: Mojave Sound Art Presents INCANTATIONS 2019
Incantations: A Sound Art Gathering
March 29th - 31st
Incantations is an installation based and site-specific sound art gathering in the High Desert of Southern California. As a space for creating and presenting sound art work, the desert landscape calls on artists to be open to its many opportunities and challenges. Incantations invites artists to work with the landscape, space and history of the desert and call forth or summon the spirit of the space while creating within it.
Concurrent with DesertX and the Wonder Valley Experimental Music Festival, the idea of this event is to invite conversation and contemplation around sound, space and engaging sonically in the desert. Held in conjunction with this years 11th anniversary festival, Incantations will host over 15 artists creating site-specific performances and installations around Wonder Valley.
Incantations is free and open to the public. Camping is available behind the Palms Restaurant which is the central hub for Incantations information and programming.
About MSA
Mojave Sound Art Collective is is a collaboration between sound sculptors Kate Lee Short, Ven Voisey, and Anja Ulfeldt with an extended community of collaborators committed to creating and facilitating sound oriented installation and performance projects in Wonder Valley (East 29 Palms, CA.) We work to foster long term relationships between artists and this specific region of the Mojave Desert through conceptually rigorous site-specific projects. Programming consists of artist talks, gatherings, and events focused on contemporary investigations that use sound to address and embrace the extremes- both physical conceptual- of our chosen venue.
MSA seeks to explore the territory between sound, presence and physical form through projects created with and within the landscape. We’re interesting in work that is durational in nature and has a strong relationship with the desert. The Desert provides a rare venue free of urban noise where sound artists can work with subtlety in a way that can be difficult in more populated areas. Our goals include promoting responsible stewardship of desert ecology and (eventually) establishing a residency here in Wonder Valley where artists can experiment and cultivate ideas on location.
