Announcing the On-Sight Project's First Exhibition: Parts & Labor by Nemo Gould
This October my new curatorial effort, the On-Sight Project, will launch with it's first location and a rare solo exhibition by Oakland kinetic sculptor Nemo Gould. His first solo show in many years, Parts & Labor will include several new never before shown works. The On-Sight Project is a mobile pop-up venue converting vacant commercial real estate into exhibition space for contemporary art. On-Sight seeks to pair donated locations with local artists working with non-traditional media and/or methods. On view October 22nd through November 12th. Open Fridays 10am-2pm, Saturdays 1-5pm and by appointment.

The On-Sight Project (temporary location)
Gould employs a personal philosophy of reverse engineering and “reverse design” in which artifacts of industry are collected, categorized and machined into discrete worlds brought to life through light and motion in the artist's West Oakland workshop. Salvaging everywhere from aerospace scrapyards to estate sales and dumpsters, Nemo’s creative industry allows us, the observer, to access collective memory through his library of extinct possessions. These parts are not merely assembled but rather rescued, resurrected and given new life.
Gould earned his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at the Kansas City Art Institute in 1998, and his Master of Fine Arts degree at U.C. Berkeley in 2000. He is a founding member of Applied Kinetic Arts Collective and Lost & Foundry studios in Oakland, CA. His work was recently featured on Discovery VR and is shown in galleries and museums throughout the U.S. and abroad.
